“And that’s how it should have been from the start!” – I thought, looking with a flushed face at the subsequent stunts performed by Travis Pastrana at the wheel of the 874 horsepower Subaru GL Wagon. Gymkhana 2022 takes place in Florida, so naturally it was kept in a holiday mood. A talented motorcyclist and rally driver, however, quickly abandons the sun on the beach to do what he does best: stunt shows and spectacular slides.
Idyll on the beach? Under no circumstances!
With previous editions of Gymkhana – with both Ken Block and Travis Pastrana – Hoonigan has raised the bar really high. The high expectations for this year’s clip were therefore justified. Did the Americans resist the sentence? It is best to judge for yourself by watching the latest production to the end. One thing I can promise: it’s 10 minutes of great fun!
Gymkhana 2022 better than Electrikhana?
The car driven by Travis Pastrana in Gymkhana 2022 is a heavily modified Subaru GL Wagon with a 2.3 liter turbocharged engine. However, it’s not the engine that’s the most interesting. Auto Pastrany has a carbon fiber bodywork, an “armor” that protects the frame during tricks directly from the world of skateboarders (it’s no coincidence!) and a supercar gem: an active aerodynamic package. The Subaru in the clip bravely endures the harsh treatment of the driver.
This trick is a nod to Pastrana’s skateboarding roots
In Electrikhanie, theoretically, everything was “correct”: there were spectacular slides, Ken Block and illuminated Las Vegas. There was even an impressive car, for which Audi engineers deserve great respect. However, it was hard for me to feel excited while watching this production. Maybe it’s that piercing whine from the electric motors, or maybe it’s just the lack of a roaring rally exhaust. I felt real emotions only when I saw the old-fashioned diesel version of Gymkhana. Do you have it too?
