For discovering two stars.. “NASA” praises a Saudi researcher
The US space agency “NASA” in Saudi Arabia praised Dr. “Wafaa Zakry”, an assistant professor at the College of Science of Jazan University.
The agency published its scientific research on its official website, entitled: “The rate, amplitude and duration of class 0 explosions of primary stars in the Orion molecular cloud”, with the participation of a research team from the Ritter Center for Astrophysical Research of the University of Toledo, USA.
Dr Wafa said the search led to the discovery of 2 out of 3 category zero stars in the Orion molecular cloud (the constellation Orion), where a potential explosion rate for the youngest stars at the rate of once every 400 years, explaining it. Each explosion takes about 15 years, and I explained that the concept of class zero stars means: newborn stars, which are the youngest stars in the stage of formation and formation until they become a full-fledged star.

Dr. Zakry stressed that this study is a big step forward and helps astronomers understand more clearly how stars form and accumulate their mass, adding that the formation and evolution of young stars has always been a challenge that must be studied because they are often covered by thick shells formed from them and therefore difficult to observe.
After reaching the research results, Dr. Zakry said that bright bursts of protostars have been sought for 16 years (2004 to 2020) through a recent analysis of data from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope. To further support the validity of the results, the results were also compared with data from other telescopes including the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Herschel Space Telescope and the Stratospheric Observatory. in the Air (SOFIA).
As for the importance of the research, he said the first local explosion was discovered nearly a century ago, and has rarely been observed since then, due to the paucity of information about how stars form and their mass accumulates. . I decided to conduct a study on this phenomenon.
He commended the support and personal follow-up of the President of Jazan University, Dr. Mari bin Hussein Al-Qahtani, and expressed his thanks for the facilities and motivation provided by the university to continue its achievements and scientific research.
