Jakarta –
Indonesian standard QR (QRIS extension) is now an alternative payment method at merchants.
Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has revealed the right path. “QR Indonesian Standard or QRIS for short, simply QRIS is not a Keris but QRIS,” he said on Tuesday (6/12/2022) at the national coordination meeting.
He revealed that QRIS can be used anywhere. Starting from shopping centres, shops, mosques and churches.
“In traditional markets, including my village’s Gawok market, you don’t need to buy satay with money, a mobile phone with QRIS is enough,” he explained.
Perry revealed that QRIS users have now reached 30 million users. It targeted 45 million users next year.
He explained that QRIS had been multilaterally linked and was now linked to Thailand. Then it is being tested with Malaysia, next year with Singapore and the Philippines.
With this QRIS connection, Thais traveling to Bali, Yogyakarta, Bangka Belitung or other areas can use their respective QR for payment.
“So if a foreigner comes, they can use QRIS and go to the money changer to change the rupee again, they can use QRIS,” he said.
Perry explained that many people are now using QRIS in Bali. In the future, BI and financial services will continue to develop this service.
“In the next two years it won’t just be bilateral but multilateral and the economy will be more advanced, people will be happy,” he explained.
QRIS has the goal of transaction efficiency, acceleration of financial inclusion, advancement of MSMEs which can drive national economic growth.
Perry explained that QRIS is an original Indonesian QR transaction. “A sign that Indonesia is a modern developed country will have a higher income, a nationally enforced standard. What is called QRIS Superior,” she said.
QRIS carries the spirit of SUPERIOR which means UNIVERSAL, EASY, COST-EFFECTIVE and DIRECT.
The public can use QRIS nationwide which will come into effect from 1 January 2020. This is done with the aim of providing a preparatory transition period for Payment System Service Providers (PJSPs).
