To support women victims of violence living in the different reception centers of the State of Mexico, the gender unit of the Ministry of Culture of the entity has launched a underwear collection campaign for mothers and children who are in these shelters, reported the head of the unit, Alejandra Guerra.
“It’s about collect women’s and children’s underwear from girls and boys arriving at shelters administered by the government of the state of Mexico, we are collecting underwear to support women who suffer violence”.
She explained that this initiative comes as part of the 16 days without violence for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the goal of the gender unit of the Secretariat is to help those victims.
In general terms, he said that about 100 women go to reception centers every month and ask for help to deal with situations of violence. The initiative to collect underwear for both women and their children was born in response to a request, since they asked what the needs of the women in the different shelters were.
“He started by asking a very simple question what do they need? Every year the Ministry of Culture promotes a fundraising campaign and well, this year we asked the shelters… It is a basic garment, it is a garment that is not shared, it is a garment that is needed and that they do not have or that is not considered”.

The call to donate presses will be open until December 16 and all proceeds will benefit the over 100 women who live in the 10 shelters of the Mexican entity.
“They have food, of course, basic conditions in these spaces -the shelters-, but sometimes out of pity and taking into account the stereotypes that exist on the subject, because it is difficult for anyone to come and donate underwear”.
All sizes and designs are allowed, it is only required that the garments are new. The pillars of attention are the Centro Cultural Mexiquense, in Toluca and the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Bicentenario, in Texcoco.
