At one house in Lochem, a front door was broken in and a Star of David and the word “Jew” were carved into the wall. Stolpersteine were recently placed in front of the address on the Walderstraat.
“Whoever did it is crazy,” says a spokesman for the Stolpersteine Lochem Foundation Gelderland broadcast. He wants to remain anonymous. “I hope the police track them down and bring them to justice.”
“We placed the four Stolpersteine in September and then a nail was also cut into the wood. You could see a Star of David and read the word ‘Jew’. I strongly suspect it is the same author.”
Mayor Sebastiaan van ‘t Erve van Lochem calls last weekend’s action a “totally unacceptable act of hatred”. “I hope the police and judiciary track down and punish the culprit to set an example. Never again!”.
The municipality of Lochem reports the incident to the Center for Information and Documentation Israel, which is committed to reducing the number of anti-Semitic statements and incidents. The citizen concerned filed a complaint.
