With the premiere of “Lohengrin”, the Bavarian State Opera manages to overcome a difficult phase. The Munich opera debut of the conductor François-Xavier Roth, which sheds new light on Wagner’s music, played an important role in this.
The bad news about the Bavarian State Opera doesn’t stop. Recently, its director Serge Dorny announced that the May premiere of Toshio Hosokawa’s “Matsukaze” was to be postponed by a year. Increased production and energy costs as a result of the war in Ukraine and lack of personnel are given as the reason. In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, Dorny also admitted that he would have “planned radically differently” had he known of the still-evident after-effects of the pandemic in theater operations.
