Reuters.- Prince William met with US President Joe Biden on the Boston waterfront on Friday as part of a three-day visit by British royalty that seeks to focus attention on efforts to tackle environmental problems.
William and his wife, Catherine, have tried to keep the spotlight on the weather and other causes during their first overseas trip since assuming the titles of prince and princess of Wales, following Queen Elizabeth’s death in September.
However, against the backdrop of his US visit, Netflix released a trailer for an upcoming documentary series about William’s younger brother Harry and his American wife Meghan, reviving talk of family rifts.
Buckingham Palace is also grappling with a new controversy related to racism.
This Friday afternoon, William smiled as he met Biden outdoors in chilly weather on the Boston waterfront. The two men took a short walk before a private meeting at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
The couple were expected to discuss “shared climate goals” and the “prioritization of mental health issues,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters ahead of the meeting.
Afterwards, William and Catherine celebrated the winners of the Earthshot Award, an award William established to recognize people working to combat the effects of climate change. Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish and others were set to perform at the star-studded ceremony.
“We want to show what we can all do to help set the world on the path to a stable climate, where communities, nature and oceans thrive in harmony,” William said in an opinion piece published in The Huffington Post.
Catherine and William have already visited the United States in 2014, when they were invited by then President Barack Obama to the White House.
Their current trip came just days before Harry and Meghan stepped into the spotlight at an award ceremony in New York City.
