The development of memory speeds that can be achieved with the latest DDR5 standard is progressing rapidly. One of the most important events in this regard is the launch of Intel’s “Raptor Lake” Core 13000 series with its Z790 chipset, which enabled higher speeds than was previously possible. This has recently been demonstrated by, among others, the memory manufacturer Gskill, which in cooperation with Asus has been successful reach 8,000 MHz.
Now Gskill takes the next step and goes from demonstration to memory kit launch which has been validated for 8,000MHz speed. It’s their Trident Z5 RGB series in black and silver, with 32GB DDR5 split into two modules. The memory supports XMP 3.0 and them timing which is on the menu is 38-48-48-128. To achieve the speeds, a reasonably high voltage of 1.45 volts is required.
While the memories are validated for 8,000 MHz, it won’t always run smoothly, because those speeds also place high demands on both the processor and motherboard. At the time of writing, Gskill’s new product has only been validated with the Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex overclocking-focused motherboard and associated “Raptor Lake” processor.
Those feeling the need for record-breaking mementos probably won’t have to wait much longer, as the mementos are due out in December in the US. The products are priced up by around USD 530, to say the least, which is around SEK 6,900 with VAT. It remains to be seen when the mementos make their way onto Swedish store shelves.
