Sharing student photos in the “Christmas calendar”

The headmaster of Horsens School in East Jutland, Denmark is adamantly opposed to a ‘Christmas calendar trend’.

An unknown user created an account on Instagram, where photos of two high school students were shared on Friday.

The description states that a new student will be seen on the account for each day of Advent.

– We’ve rounded up the 24 most beautiful girls in Horsen High. Christmas is safe. Open up to a sassy new pixie girl every day, the account description says, according to Danish television 2who first mentioned the case.

Unlike in Norway, the Danes still use the word gymnasium for the level of education which is now called upper secondary school in this country.

It’s not the first time

Apparently, it’s also not the first time such an account has been created.

According to Danish TV 2, accounts have circulated in which students ranked each other according to appearance, and similar ‘Christmas calendars’ messages have been sent from other upper secondary schools in the past.

A quick Instagram search seems to confirm this, with a number of references to “Christmas calendars” in Danish high schools across the country.

He can break the law

According to Danish TV 2, the principal of the school, Flemming Steen Jensen, says he is very surprised that someone has created such a profile.

– It really surprises me. I think there’s a lot that we adults and professionals and teachers and leaders don’t know, but that still doesn’t align with how we treat each other today and how we look at gender and the one another, Jensen tells the paper.

The principal also points out that the account most likely violates the privacy law, as it appears that the account shares images of students without consent.

– It’s a way of turning pupils into objects, and I can’t be sure that all pupils find it fun to be exhibited like this, continues the principal.

It also encourages those behind the account to delete it.
