Norwegian biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bö triumphed in Saturday’s sprint of the 1st round of the World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland. He managed the men’s 10km race in 23:09.0 minutes and achieved the 56th individual triumph of his career.

At the same time, he moved to the top of the SP general classification one point ahead of Swede Martin Ponsiluoma. Another Norwegian, Sturla Holm Laegreid, finished second with a distance of 10.5s, while German Roman Rees finished third (+28.8s). Slovak Michael Sima he took 28th place and scored 13 points in the SP standings.

Šima has only achieved an individual best result twice, when in the 2020/2021 season in Oberhof, Germany, he finished 24th in the sprint and then 26th in the mass start race.

29-year-old Bö dominated the contest despite making a mistake at the shooting range. The Olympic champion in the shortest discipline of the Beijing Olympics had the fastest running time, second Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden lost 19.8 and third Laegreid up to 27.4 seconds.

In the opening sprint of the new season, after the first clear shot, he took the lead with a time of 7:39.7 minutes, and even when he missed in the stands he remained in first place. He further improved his two second lead over his fellow representative in the final round to 10.5.

the Slovak Michal Šima he managed both shots without hesitation and thanks to that took 28th place in points with a loss of 1: 45.7 minutes behind the winner. Tomáš Sklenárik, on the other hand, failed to do so and after four inaccurate shots he ended up in 86th place and did not go into Sunday’s pursuit.

From 13:45 in Kontiolahti a women’s sprint of 7.5 km was scheduled.
