RKI registers 27,841 new corona infections – incidence at 207.0

Saturday 03 December, 05:13: The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) estimated the national incidence over seven days on Saturday morning at 207.0. This is evident from the numbers reflecting the RKI dashboard status at 5am. The day before, the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 205 (previous week: 189.5; previous month: 289.6). However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have long assumed there will be a large number of unrecorded cases from the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. Furthermore, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of the individual daily values.

German health authorities recently reported 27,841 new corona infections (previous week: 24,687) and 89 deaths (previous week: 107) to the RKI in one day. Here, too, data comparisons are only possible to a limited extent due to test behavior, late entries or transmission problems. In general, the number of new infections and deaths recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to the RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

The RKI has counted 36,557,861 SARS-CoV-2 infections since the start of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

The downward trend in the incidence of corona is faltering
