USAP – CO: Perpignan wins heartily against a rebound Castres but too short

Carried away by their crowd, the Catalans secured victory at the start of the match during the 5th day of Top 14, this Saturday October 1st.

They did! Perpignan had not won two games in a row at Aimé-Giral for two years. But after last week’s RC Toulon, it was Castres who came up against the courageous Sang et Or, authors of a copiously controlled first half.

Solid in the conquest and led by Ecochard and Tedder at the hingeextremely complementary, the Catalans were rewarded with three penalties converted by Tedder himself.

Nine points per foot, unable to realize good intentions by hand, while the Castresi struggle to find harmony.

Perfect first half

To the point of spending the first thirty minutes outside the local 22 meters, thwarted by a titanic local defense.

And to make matters worse for indiscipline, Castres captain Babillot received a yellow card just before the break.

A temporary penalty that the CO was about to pay in cash, illico, after Ecochard, at the cost of a flash, allowed his center Taumeopeau to dive joyfully into the end area.

With a more substantial bench than Perpignan, Castres had to offer something else in tow. He will do it.

Like the former Catalan, Adréa Cocagi made full use of the Catalan defense to score her side’s only try. More aggressive, otherwise organized and collectively incisive, Tarnais turned the Catalans’ heads. But that will not be enough to change the situation.

With this resounding victory, the Catalans are no longer relegated after five days of matches.

“Even with broken arms…”

Lucas Velarte (Usap’s third line): “We scored fourteen points in the first half, but didn’t score any follow-ups and that put us in the red. There was a way to hit them over the head, but we were imprecise, too quick to score a second try. We fight like dogs and we deserve to continue, now an important match awaits us at the Stade Français”. Mathieu Acébes (captain and winger of Usap): “I have a sense of pride. We played against a team used to top 6 and the difference was the mood. It’s a marathon and even without stars in the team, even with broken arms, we did well what! We’ll see at the end…”
