This is why the Apple Pencil 2 cannot work with the iPad 10

A little later than usual, iFixit technicians have published a teardown of the iPad 10, allowing to visualize the integration concerns of the hardware necessary for the Apple Pencil 2.

Horizontal camera or Apple Pencil 2, you have to choose (for now)

The iPad 10 marks a new era for the entry-level iPad, with a design that approaches that sported by the rest of the range. It’s also the first tablet from Apple to feature a front-facing camera positioned for use in landscape format. Comparing the internal parts of a 2020 iPad Air (Apple Pencil 2 compatible) and those of the iPad Air Gen4, it is obvious that the camera takes the place of the elements necessary for charging and the magnetic docking of the Apple Pencil 2. However, Apple’s army of engineers will have to come up with a solution in the future so that iPad Pro/Air and mini can offer this handy camera on the wider edge, while retaining the Apple Pencil 2. This could be accomplished even during a full restyling of the iPad Pro (and why not an Apple Pencil 3).

Still too much glue and welded parts

Technicians deplore the fact that the ribbon that connects the USB-C connector to the motherboard is soldered to the motherboard, making it even more difficult to replace. The two 28.93 Wh battery cells are easy enough to remove thanks to the four adhesive tabs Apple put in place on many models (but you’ll still have to take the screen off, without breaking it, as well as the motherboard, even glued to the chassis- to access it). Finally, iFixit notes the lack of references for spare parts for this new iPad (and the previous generation) within Apple’s official repair program.
