Railway romance
The California Zephyr is the quintessential American railroad classic. The train, which takes its name from the mythological god of the west wind, crosses the United States from San Francisco Bay to Chicago: 4,000 kilometers in 56 hours. The journey through seven states is considered one of the most beautiful in the United States. In the second part of the journey in the California Zephyr, the train winds its way through the Rocky Mountains over breathtaking canyons. The apex of the route is reached at an impressive 2,800 meters in the Moffat Tunnel. Now it’s downhill to Denver, the capital of Colorado. The journey then winds its way through the “breadbasket of the nation”, the Midwest. In Omaha, the film crew visits the theater where Henry Fonda started his career. Followed by a delicious steak at Gorat’s, one of the most famous steakhouses in the USA. In Des Moines, the willing visitor learns what presidents are like. In front of the gates of Chicago there is a detour to the former premises of the Pullman company. The carriages of the legendary Orient Express were once built here. After 56 hours and 4,000 kilometers, the California Zephyr journey concludes in Chicago.
