What’s on the interactive map?
Show a part of the universe. The position and real colors of 200,000 galaxies will be represented, including our Milky Way, which is nothing more than a simple point, but contains billions of stars and planets.
Brice Ménard, a professor at Johns Hopkins and one of the creators of the map, said the project is an astronomical view of galaxies that presents a totally different result from what we are used to seeing.
How to use the interactive map of the universe?

In the lower left corner you will find all the interaction options. Start by clicking on “explore the map” to see it in a larger size, making it easier to observe the points. Under “downloads/posters”, you can get a file of four different versions of the map. In the “description”, you will find the main information about the project.
1. What are the points on the map?
Each dot represents a galaxy in its current position and color. For example: we are in the Milky Way, at the lowest point. The superiors in space form a tangle that the further away they are, the more difficult it is to see them.
2. Why do the colors change?
The expansion of the universe lengthens the wavelength of light. Therefore, the farther galaxies are from us, the redder they will appear.
3. Why aren’t we in the center?
Ours is not in any special position in space, but on the map we are in the center, because we are looking at the rest of the world. universe from our point of view.
