Irregularities with the exploding wagon, shooting ban for the original actor and shooting from the side

A movie classic An assassin is waiting in the dormitories even more than 50 years after its premiere, it still draws viewers to television screens. The film tells of the events that take place during the transportation of a special shipment of banknotes by train from Prague to Moravia. The precious shipment is monitored by the Public Security under the leadership of Lieutenant Lenko (Radoslav Brzobohatý). During the transport, two tragedies occur simultaneously. First a young woman is killed and then a train car explodes. Jiří Sovák enters the role of Major Kalash and his collaborator in the case is Jaromír Hanzlík.

The author of the book model is Eduard Fiker, who, unfortunately, did not live to see the film premiere. The film was shot only 12 years after the release of the first copy. Eduard Fiker died at the age of only 58, 9 years before his premiere in cinemas.

This is the only film in the series about Major Kalash that was not made by the director Peter Schulhoff and the main role of Major Kalash was not played by a legendary actor Rudolf Hrusinsky. Other pictures of this crime series are Fear, The killer hides his face Traces of blood a Death diagnosis. The original Major Kalash in submission Hrushinsky he did not appear in this film as he had been banned from making films since 1969.

Even though the shooting of the crime film took place during a period of strict normalization, it can be noted several times that Karlíček (Jaromir Hanzlik) and bank security officer Jareš (Bohumil Shmida) address Kalash alternately not only as “Comrade Major” but also as “Mr. Major”.

Message from Major Kalash “pic kozu do vazu” will be heard a total of four times. It is interesting, however, that someone else pronounces it last, namely the character Karlíček (Hanslik).

There were also several irregularities and mistakes during filming

For example, the fact that the killer just shot a girl directly in the forehead with a ČZ 52 pistol from the waist about 30 meters, without aiming, which is absolutely not possible. Perhaps it would be possible with very precise aiming. The killer therefore wanted to be absolutely sure that he had killed the girl, which would not have been possible by shooting “from the side”.

The policeman reports after inspecting the crashed train and says, “Z of the crew only Lieutenant Lenk survived, who has two fatal wounds”. But that’s definitely not good, because if he had life-threatening injuries, he wouldn’t be able to survive.

After the explosion, the wagon barely begins to smoke and continues on the tracks fairly unscathed. But in the scene following Major Kalash’s arrival at the crime scene, the car is largely broken and is even thrown off the rails. When the helicopter first flies over the exploded tank, you can see that the whole tank is on fire. During the second flyover of the next scene, however, the wagon does not burn and only smoke rises from the windows. However, the difference between the first and second flight was only a moment.

You can also notice that when Major Kalash shoots the Nutcracker structure, you can see that the person shot falls on his back. But in another shot on the tracks, he lies dead on his stomach.

You can watch A Killer Waits in the Dormitories December 1st on Prima Max from 8pm and December 3rd from 2.55pm on Prima.
