The absolute world boxing champion in the second Mexican middleweight Saul Alvarez declared on Twitter that his threats to Argentina national soccer team leader Lionel Messi were inappropriate.

Alvarez had previously accused Messi of disrespecting Mexico and urged him to “pray” not to meet him in person. This is how the boxer reacted to the video of the Argentines celebrating their victory over the Mexicans at the World Cup in Qatar, in which Messi trampled on the Mexican national team shirt lying on the ground in the locker room.

“Over the last few days I have been overwhelmed by passion and love for my country and I have made inappropriate comments for which I want to apologize to Messi and the Argentine people. Every day teaches us something new, this time it’s my turn” Alvarez wrote.

Put later named the situation as a misunderstanding and stated that he had nothing to apologize for, as he did not intentionally offend anyone.
