The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE monitor uses a 45-inch OLED panel that displays a UWQHD definition of 3440 x 1440 pixels and supports a 240Hz refresh rate. The response time is advertised at 0.03ms. In fact, it’s instantaneous, which limits the blurring effect behind moving objects. LCD models simply can’t compete with OLED technology in this respect.
Manufactured by LG Display, this OLED panel uses a four-sub-pixel (white, red, green and blue) structure, similar to OLED TVs and the LG UltraGear 27GR95QE 27-inch OLED monitor, announced last November.
The slab is very curved on a radius of only 80cm for total immersion. This curvature radius is in contradiction with the resolution of 83 pixels per inch, which requires you to be at least 1.2m from the monitor to enjoy it properly. In fact, the UWQHD definition is usually used on 34-inch monitors. On this 45-inch model, the distance between the pixels is therefore larger and the resolution (pixel density) less good.
The panel supports AdaptiveSync and FreeSync between 48 and 240 Hz, as well as LFC (Low Frame Compensation) which doubles or even triples the number of images between 20 and 48 Hz. The viewing angles are obviously 178° and the anti-reflection treatment promises to be effective. LG doesn’t specify whether it’s a matte or semi-gloss panel. Like other LG Display panels, it covers almost the entire DCI-P3 color space (98.5%), exhibits infinite contrast and boasts a peak brightness close to 1000 cd/m² (this remains to be verified).
In terms of connectivity, there are two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports and a headphone output that supports DTS:X. The foot is adjustable in height over 11 cm, in inclination (-2°/+15°), and manages rotation over ±10°. The monitor does not have a speaker.
The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE also features Picture-In-Picture (PIP) and Picture-By-Picture (PBP) modes for viewing multiple sources simultaneously on the screen. DisplayPort 1.4 can handle a 240Hz UWQHD stream with DSC (Display Stream Compression).
This extra-large OLED monitor will pre-order on December 12 in the US for approximately $1,700 (before tax) with delivery scheduled for December 28. It should therefore end up on this side of the Atlantic for a price of just under €2,000, but no release date has yet been announced.
The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE will therefore have a lot to do to compete with the only other OLED monitor for gamers equipped with a QD-Oled panel produced by Samsung Display, using only three sub-pixels (red, green and blue), the Alienware AW3423DW displayed at 1300 €. The Samsung 34 Odyssey G8 equipped with the same QD-Oled panel is expected to go on sale in early 2023. Its price remains unknown.
