According to foreign media reports, a 27-year-old man frantically bought 300 iPhones at the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue on Monday morning. Surprisingly, he was robbed shortly after leaving the shop.
Reports say the robbery occurred at 1:45 am local time. He was carrying three bags containing 300 iPhone 13 cell phones and was walking back to his car. On the way, a car suddenly stopped next to him, then two men jumped out of the car and threatened him with handing over his bag with iPhone in hand.
After the victim could not resist, a purse was stolen. The stolen purse contained 125 iPhones worth $95,000.
Police said the man frequented the Fifth Avenue store to stock up on iPhones in order to resell them for a profit through his small business. Why he chose to make the purchase at 1am is unknown and it is not possible to establish whether he was robbed due to his past shopping habits.
The shop is open 24 hours, so it is possible to shop early in the morning. Thieves may have been tipped off about Apple’s Black Friday sale at the time. The NYPD is investigating the robbery and the victim suffered no serious injuries. A description of the suspect and his vehicle has not been released.
