Welterweight No. 6 Stephen Thompson is hoping to face Nick Diaz if the former Strikeforce champion returns to competition.
Stephen Thompson hasn’t fought since losing a second straight loss to Belal Muhammad last December. Before that, Wonderboy lost a decision to Gilbert Burns at UFC 264.
One year after his last appearance, Thompson is preparing to come back this weekend against Kevin Holland, in the main event of UFC Orlando. While he doesn’t take this next challenge lightly, the karateka already has an idea of his future opponent’s name.
In an interview given to Radio presentation, Thompson said he plans to face legendary UFC veteran and former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz. The Stockton native has not returned to competition since he lost by TKO to Robbie Lawler last September. However, he plans to return to the Octagon in 2023.
“You know, I saw Nick Diaz fight. »Thompson said. “Every time that name is mentioned, I have a smile. So, I wish it would happen now. That would be really cool. »
“So if I come in and win this fight on Saturday, my hand is up, then that’s still an option and a potential fight for me. Yes, 100%. »concluded Wonderboy about a possible future fight against the eldest of the Diaz brothers.
