At the end of the year, the Cinémathèque de Toulouse invites film enthusiasts and music lovers to come and discover its new festival, “SYNCHRO”. An event entirely dedicated to cine-concert and silent cinema which will take place from 30 November to 4 December in Toulouse and throughout Occitania. [Partenariat]
Film concerts and silent films have always been part of the Cinémathèque de Toulouse’s DNA. Since the 1980s, the Cinémathèque has continued to revive this form of entertainment in France, notably with the major cinema concerts presented at the Avignon Festival from 1980 to 1985, in collaboration with Christian Belaygue.
Today the SYNCHRO festival promises to pay homage to some thirty masterpieces of silent cinema in Toulouse, in some twenty places in the metropolis and in Occitania.
“Cinema has been silent since birth” according to the writer Tristan Bernard (1866-1947). But was he ever really? With live music, the images have always been embellished by the chords of the musicians who form an inseparable duo.
The SYNCHRO festival invites you to (re)discover silent cinematic works through the eyes of musicians with very different approaches. Piano, electronic music, jazz, rock, all styles will participate in the making of these films devoid of dialogue yet so expressive.
Putting the Mute back on stage: it’s not giving him the floor (which he doesn’t have), it’s giving him the music he’s always had in the rhythm of his editing (and in his debut show)
