Approval of the new government is expected in mid-December, predicts Kariņš

According to Kariņš, the work for the creation of the government is currently proceeding “at a very normal pace” and the parties have passed the stage of disputes and misunderstandings. Work on the government statement is expected to finish today.

The politician admitted that the parties will not have been able to reach a complete consensus on everything, for example the discussions on taxes will continue even after the formation of the government. Currently, the parties have only agreed on a few principles, for example, that the fees will not undergo rapid changes this year, and the changes will be made only once during the Saeima convening, which will be extensively discussed both between the parties and with the parties involved.

Kariņš admitted that with 54 votes in parliament, the new coalition is having trouble securing a majority in all committees.

According to him, after the composition of the Saeima changes, with some of the members becoming ministers, the composition of the members in the commissions will also change, including the coalition that will consider which commissions must guarantee a majority. Kariņš is convinced that the representation of the coalition in the Legal Commission must be changed and a majority must be ensured.

As reported, the ‘New Unit’, ‘Lista Unita’ and Unione Nazionale parties agreed on the formation of the coalition, which is currently working on the government’s to-do list.
