Omroep Flevoland – News – Vitens significantly increases the price of drinking water

The price of drinking water will rise sharply in 2023. A thousand liters of water will cost 85 cents next year. It was still 72 cents per cubic meter of drinking water this year. This was announced by the drinking water company Vitens. This is an 18% increase.

This means that next year households will pay around 20 euros more for 100 cubic meters of water. According to Vitens, an average family of four uses about 163 cubic meters of water a year, which equates to an extra bill of about 32 euros. The company says price hikes are needed due to inflation. As a result, the costs of energy, materials and raw materials have increased significantly.

The drinking water company will invest 245 million euros next year to ensure the availability of drinking water in the future. Vitens also wants to extract groundwater in the south of the province, because there is a major housing problem around Almere. Together with the province of Flevoland, the company is looking for a suitable location for water extraction.
