41 VRT employees were fired today, the union calls it “one of the blackest days in the history of VRT”

The VRT board of directors approved the 2023-2025 transformation plan a week ago. The number of layoffs has been reduced to approximately 68, down from an initial number of 116.

Meanwhile, that number has been further reduced to 61 full-time equivalents, Vermeir says. This has to do with people retiring earlier than expected and vacancies that have been wiped out, says the VRT spokesperson.

41 of them will therefore have to leave the VRT after this year, for the others it would be in 2024 or 2025. “But we are evaluating whether we can moderate that number further,” says Vermeir. There could therefore be another 20 layoffs in the future.
