After the boxer’s threat, the Mexican captain defends Messi

Mexico captain Andres Guardado has defended Lionel Messi after Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez covertly threatened the Argentine striker after he felt offended by a video of Messi pushing his foot aside his Mexico national team shirt in the dressing room after winning the match World Cup in Qatar Mexico.

Messi scored in the 2-0 World Cup win against Mexico last Saturday, and Alvarez wrote via his Twitter account on Monday, followed by 2.2 million people: Have you seen Messi mopping the floor in our shirt and flag?

And Alvarez added in another tweet, accompanied by an angry face and a flame: He (Messi) should pray to God not to take him.

But 36-year-old Guardado, who is contesting his fifth World Cup, has been backing Messi.

He told reporters: There is an unspoken agreement that if players’ sweat falls on the dressing room floor, everyone should wipe it off.

He continued: I was lucky enough to face Messi for many years in Spain, I know his personality and morals. Unfortunately Canelo probably doesn’t understand what it means to be in the locker room.

Mexico must win their final Group C match against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to have any chance of reaching the round of 16 in Qatar.
