The Surabaya Military Court has sentenced a TNI soldier couple with the initials AW and WPL to prison for proving they are dating people of the same sex. Both were also fired because they had engaged in same-sex relationships or were classified as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT).
The two met while attending the school for candidates for conscription (Secata) in 2021. The two were then placed in Makassar. In early 2022, the two were relocated to Surabaya and sailed on a ship. It was on that trip that they anchored each other’s hearts and had oral sex.
The same-sex relationship continued as long as the two lived in Sidoarjo. The LGBT couple repeated their actions many times, both in the barracks and in the boarding house. One day, the two recorded oral sex in June 2022 with their cell phones. AW plays the role of the woman and WPL plays the role of the man.
The immoral acts of the two were exposed during a routine supervisor inspection on July 7, 2022. The officer found the video and was prosecuted legally. AW and WPL finally sat in the prison chair.
“Statement legally and convincingly proven guilty of having committed the crime of ‘willful disobedience’. Main penalty for 7 months in prison. Additional penalty for dismissal from military service”, reads the note. website Supreme Court (MA), Tuesday (11/29/2022).
The Assembly fired and jailed the two defendants because they could transmit HIV/AIDS, so the two were not ready to be alerted/prepared to deal with state defense contingencies that required the physical and mental alertness of every TNI soldier .
“The actions of the defendants who engaged in same-sex deviant sexual behavior were grossly inappropriate because, as soldiers of the TNI, the defendants should have been able to set an example to the community around the defendants, particularly in the ‘obey the rule of law so that the defendants’ actions were very much contrary to the statutory norms, as well as any religious provision that must be brought under strict action,” explained the assembly chaired by Lt. Col. Arif Sudibya with the members Major Musthofa and Major U Taryana.
