Shabana Rehman: – I am comfortable with death

It has now been seven months since comedian and public debater Shabana Rehman (46) announced that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with spread.

Rehman was told by doctors that she didn’t have long to live and had been seriously ill for the past few months.

– The last few weeks have been very hard. I went through several critical phases. It’s not a given which direction it’s going to go, and I have to live with that. I accepted it, added Rehman The newspaper during the awarding of the Norsk PEN Ossietzky Prize.

In a new interview with Watch and listen now he opens up about his thoughts on death.

He’s not afraid to die

During the awards ceremony, Rehman was able to reveal to Dagbladet that he had started planning for 2023, against all odds. He tells Se og Hør that he is now looking forward to New Year’s Eve.

– It’s magical every day I get closer to New Year’s Eve. At first I didn’t know if I was going to experience Easter or May 17th. New Year’s Eve was unimaginable. But that’s why it’s getting so scary now that we’re getting closer to this day.

During the interview it emerges that the stomach tumor has grown and that now things are more serious.

However, Rehman is not afraid to die.

– I alternated the fact that it’s okay to keep traveling, if that’s what happens – with the fact that I love to live. The painless moments are completely unique and deeper than anything I’ve experienced. I know death well, I feel no fear. But life gives me so much more, she tells Se og Hør.

The first Christmas together

In the midst of the fight to the death, Rehman found an unexpected bright spot. This summer, she was able to reveal that she did found love with artist and farmer Petter Simonsen (49).

Despite the doctor’s advice, the comedian started planning Christmas with his sweetheart.

– It will be a Christmas on the farm. I think it’s very romantic, Rehman might say to Dagbladet.

A Se og Hør reveals that his wish list is not very long:

– The best Christmas present now is that the two of us are together – wherever we are. I love life – and you, Petter!
