Former FCK national and professional footballer Mario Basler takes over the coaching position at the district league club SC Türkgücü Osnabrück after a lost bet.
The “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” reported it on Wednesday. “It is an honor for us that Mario Basler is volunteering with us as a coach,” said Türkgücü board member Caner Ciftci, who is now even hoping for a commitment of up to one and a half years from the 53-year-old.
According to the report, Basler lost a squash match to a member of the club. In this case, the former professional of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich had previously agreed to coach the promotion candidate from district league C together with the previous coach. After the end of his playing career, Basler coached Jahn Regensburg, Eintracht Trier, Wacker Burghausen and Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, among others. Born in the Palatinate, he has lived in Osnabrück for several years.
