On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, as well as the country’s prime minister and foreign minister.
– We will do what is necessary to protect all allies, Stoltenberg said at a press conference after the meeting.
– We can’t let Putin win. He will show authoritarian leaders around the world that they can achieve their goals using military force and make the world a more dangerous place for all of us. So it is in everyone’s security interest to support Ukraine.

– Cruel attacks
Stoltenberg calls the attacks in recent weeks against Ukraine and Ukrainian infrastructure “horrible”. Last week, for example, the capital Kiev was hit by a large-scale rocket attack, knocking out the electricity grid for many Ukrainians.
– There are cruel attacks on Ukrainian cities, infrastructure and residential areas. President Putin is trying to destroy the electricity grid, gas infrastructure and basic services for the Ukrainian people, Stoltenberg says and continues:
– Doing it in winter shows that Putin is now trying to use winter as a weapon in the war against Ukraine. It’s awful and we need to be prepared for more attacks.

“Time Critical”
Stoltenberg calls where we are now a “critical moment for global security” and thanks President Iohannis for his contribution to NATO cooperation.
– In response to Russia’s attack, NATO is stepping up its presence from the Balkans to the Black Sea, Stoltenberg says.
He believes this will send a clear message that “NATO is here”.
Stoltenberg also says “one of the messages” to foreign ministers at Tuesday’s NATO meeting will be that they need to increase support for air force systems, munitions, spare parts and soldier training in Ukraine, according to NTB .
