The fact is that in Soviet times this simple object was made of metal. Thus, two very strong parts, fastened together, could withstand almost any load in the kitchen.
That is why experienced housewives used them not only for their intended purpose. With the help of a press, it was possible to peel cherries and other berries from stones. Some used it as a bottle opener, and thanks to its strength, it could even hammer a nail.
Such loads did not affect the design at all. And therefore, the so-called garlic press is still found in many kitchens of the country, where it fulfills all the whims of housewives.
