Coalition National Front carried United Malaysian National Organization Party (UMNO) states to support vote of confidence for Prime Minister (PM) Malaysia Anwar Ibrahimwhich is expected to be presented to parliament on December 19.
As reported by the news agency Named and launched Asia News Channel, on Monday (11/28/2022), Barisan Nasional leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made this statement in a statement via Facebook on Sunday (11/27) local time. Barisan Nasional is now a member of the coalition government led by Anwar.
Ahmad Zahid said the vote of confidence was necessary to ensure the legitimacy of Anwar’s leadership could be completed and silence those questioning him.
“Although some say this (the vote of confidence) is a risky move by a new Prime Minister, this is a democratic process that we have to go through and BN (Barisan Nasional) will continue to fully support it as a sign of the implementation of the decision of the Agong (King of Malaysia). ) regarding the formation of this new government,” Ahmad Zahid said in his statement.
A vote of confidence is a motion declaring that people’s representatives or members of parliament believe in government policies. A vote of confidence is usually tabled in response or in response to a vote of no confidence, a motion normally tabled by the opposition to bring down the ruling government in parliament.
In his first press conference after being sworn in as Malaysian prime minister last week, Anwar announced that a parliamentary or People’s Council meeting would be held on December 19 and that a vote of confidence would be tabled to end questions over the legitimacy of the his government.
“I would like to clarify here that we have scheduled a session of parliament on 19 December and the first motion, apart from my oath of office, is a government motion for a vote of confidence,” Anwar said as reported by the Malay Mail last week.
“So, for me, there’s no reason to worry about legitimacy that exists,” he said.
