The United States Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, was received this Saturday by the president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, at Pignatelli, in what is his first visit to the region. Reynoso then visited the Basilica del Pilar, the square, the Seo and will also discover some of the natural jewels of the autonomous community, such as the Aragonese Pyrenees.
In the institutional visitthe Aragonese president and the ambassador spoke about commercial and cultural issues that concern both regions.
Reynoso assured that it is “fascinating” to be in the land that has seen Goya and Luis Buñuel grow up and celebrated the implementation of Amazon in the autonomous community.
“We talked about the commercial part, about how can we attract more US investment here. There is obviously a lot of interest from Amazon to expand their presence here with AWS. I think it’s something very important to develop the economic climate,” the US ambassador said.
“I have received information with interest since interest of the Aragonese who invest in the United States and how we can support these investments and promote economic activity. Any support, we are delighted, “said the diplomat, who commented that he is taking” the tasks “from this institutional meeting with Lambán.
In the conversation the possibility of promoting “cultural and educational exchanges with cities like Miami and others with which there may be natural connections”, the ambassador defended.
Reactivate the Sefarad project
President Lambán showed him his desire to do so reactivate the Sefarad project, which consists in recovering the Jewish heritage of Aragon, make it known to the world and to interest the international Jewish community in the Aragonese Jewish past and in present Aragon.
The head of the Regional Council also reminded him of the contacts established with the Municipality of Miami before the covid to disseminate Aragonese cultural products, such as the one promoted by Ibercaja on the artistic relationship between Goya and Buñuel.
“We talked about recovering that program and developing it as efficiently as possible,” explained Lambán, who has reclaimed Aragon’s cultural and natural heritage as a tourist attraction.
The recent launch of the Amazon Web Services region in Aragon was another of the topics that both leaders discussed in this meeting. Lambán communicated to the US ambassador the importance of this project and its driving effect on other investments.
The US ambassador to Spain, for his part, accepted the challenge launched by the president of Aragon and promised to support Aragonese investments and future cultural exchanges with American cities. “They are natural connections. I take my homework to follow these themes,” underlined Julissa Reynosa, who visited the Basilica del Pilar and La Seo de Zaragoza before traveling to the Pyrenees.
