DRK and ADAC want to transport blood with drones

The Red Cross blood donation service has partnered with the ADAC air rescue service to develop flying drones. In the future, they could also quickly transport blood, medicines or tissue samples from A to B in Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz or Plauen. This was announced by the “DRK Blood Donation Service North-East”, which is also responsible for Saxony.

The drone is called “MediCargo”. More than 100 test flights have already been successfully completed – in wind, rain and snow. Drone transport is five times faster than a courier service or a taxi.

In the future, the aircraft could also be used for commercial purposes. The drone can carry about 1.5 kilos of blood.
