Your latest single About you and about me is a love confession. The song was written by your life partner Tomáš Vartecky. And for you?
It’s a song about me, about us, and actually about anyone who knows what two people’s long-term coexistence brings. It’s Tomáš’s confession, but he wrote it in somewhat dark times for us, when I personally wasn’t very good at singing. But now our life is again flooded with sunshine and love.
I must say that we have achieved so much in our twenty five years together that we will not be surprised and discouraged. This is kind of the subject of the song. American producer Chris Lord-Alge, a famous and skilled fighter, winner of several Grammy awards, helped us complete it.
He’s already been working with me on the song for a while. About You and Me was also filmed in his studio by the guitarist and bassist of the band Bon Jovi. Being able to work with such famous and successful musicians has been a very nice experience.
In the video, you two are played by actors Klára Miklasová and Tomáš Krutina. Is the clip a tribute to your relationship?
The clip was shot by the young and highly skilled director Ondřej Kudyn, and the screenplay was written by Ondra Brejška. They had such a retrospective and I really liked the idea. It’s such a beautiful romantic look at the beginning of our journey together.
I think many couples met on the clip and people remembered what it was like at the beginning of their relationship. It can also be a tribute to youthful loves, which may not last long, but are worth it, or it can be like in our case, when a short, fleeting and intense experience lasted for a quarter of a century.
You and Tomáš Vartecky are musicians. At the same time, in the turbulent music industry, many relationships don’t last long…
Tomáš and I have always been picky. We are partners and at the same time friends who understand each other in everything. I can’t imagine being with someone who couldn’t understand my speech, so to speak. And Tomas is the same way.
Today we are almost like Siamese twins, we have a rather pleasant dependence on each other and, above all, we really love each other. Our love stands on solid foundations, has survived many calamities, difficult trials, illnesses, the departure of loved ones, and in general was at times simply a decent massacre.
The great thing is that we are so good and we did it. Well, honestly and maybe immodestly, I have to say probably more me, well. Boys are somewhat more fragile and less durable creatures, this is a known fact…
In the new song About you and me, I sing: you are the hardest thing for me, I’m still happy to meet you. My boyfriend could sing the same thing for me. A life by my side with everything I have in my wine probably wouldn’t be given by everyone.
When Tomáš came into your life twenty-five years ago, did he immediately start writing your songs?
Basically yes. More like an author. Besides being in love, I really liked the kind of songs he composed. We met at the concerts of the Wanastowi Vjecy group. Of her It was part of her, and I was performing with her and my group as a backing band at the time.
We talked a lot about music, and when we were sitting somewhere in the evening, he would play me his song ideas. I thought they were songs by some of his favorite foreign bands. I was surprised by his talent.
Tom was also playing in his band Courtesans of 25th Avenue at the time. I didn’t know her very well, but I went to the concert and huffed like crazy. It was a real blow. It was amazing to me that when he plays such hard music, he can compose such soft and melodious songs. So I asked him if he wanted to write something for me. He had never done anything like this, so we gave it a try.
In a few weeks we were already working on some ideas. We were locked in the bedroom of her parents, with whom she was at the time, and we shot the first demo. It was in the song Chvíli nad vodu. It was our very first.
I remember the original version of his parents’ bedroom didn’t have the chorus. Tomáš didn’t compose many refrains then, for example the song Nebe didn’t have one either. He just wasn’t a snob like me. To this day, we still argue about who came up with that chorus. Well of course I…
Suddenly our very intimate and personal songs became huge hit singles. And then it went like clockwork. We learned to communicate and create together, I actually drove it, and we are still an inspiration to each other to this day.

How will you celebrate the anniversary?
I recently filmed three parts of the new program Doupé hitú for CT art with the band. In each there are five songs that have left their mark and have survived the time of their creation. The first part will take place this Friday from 20:00. There is also a documentary in the works. David Sís and Vítek Bělohradský are currently thinking about how to capture it in a way that is interesting and exceptional, so that it is not just a montage from some Anna K archive.
We’ve had a very nourishing concert year this year, we’ve been playing all summer. For this reason we have decided not to organize a pre-Christmas tour, as was our custom. We will play only two acoustic concerts, on December 9th in Hradec Králové in the beautiful space of the Petrof gallery, and then on December 14th at the Hybernia Theater in Prague. We will do another tour next year when I am preparing a new album after six years. I can not wait.
