Capelle devastated by ‘handful of tyres’: more than a hundred vandalisms in one week | Interior

In and around Capelle aan den IJssel, a man had flat tires for almost a week. More than 100 reports have now been received by police, a spokesman said on Friday. To combat the ‘punch of tyres’, the municipality has decided, among other things, that preventive body searches can be carried out in various districts.

The first flat tires were reported on Saturday 19th September. Since then, more than 100 reports have been received in Capelle aan den IJssel and neighboring Krimpen aan de Lek. The police spokesman expects there will be more in the coming days.

Police believe all the punctured tires are the work of one man. They shared video footage of the suspected cyclist earlier this week.

The man initially seems to focus mainly on car tires. However, he also hit a scooter in Capelle-West overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, she said Rijnmond.

Police say visible and invisible measures are being taken. One of them is the declaration of a security risk area in four districts of Capelle aan den IJssel. The mayor decided to use that remedy on Thursday. This allows the police, among other things, to preemptively search people on the street.

“A heavy remedy, but now necessary,” Mayor Oskam said. “This nuisance caused by the destruction of property belonging to Capellen residents and others is obviously extremely annoying. It also costs a lot of money.”
