A specialist in endometriosis, the doctor, targeted by several reports of rape, has been placed under judicial surveillance with a ban on contact with the victims and on carrying out private gynecological visits.

The former head of the gynecology-obstetrics and reproductive medicine department of Tenon hospital, Emile Daraï, was indicted on Wednesday for “intentional violence” by a public service mission manager on 32 women, according to a judicial source quoted by AFP, confirming the information from Franceinfo, the endometriosis specialist has been placed under judicial supervision with a ban on contact with the victims and on holding private gynecological visits, according to this source.

Following an initial complaint, on 28 September 2021 the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into rape by a person having authority over a minor over the age of 15, subsequently extended to gang rape. On January 3, a judicial inquiry into violence by a person in charge of a public service mission was finally opened.

The Parisian doctor had been dismissed from his responsibilities in December 2021 after the publication of a internal investigation report against him. “Some deficiencies have been identified in the collection of consent to certain gestures”, raised the investigation, which however did not accept “no sexual connotations”. The verdict was final:In the light of the various testimonies against Professor Darai, the commission considers that the obligation to inform these patients, the relief of their pain, the respect of their wishes have not been respected..

The AP-HP and the Sorbonne University had announced two months earlier that the gynecologist was temporarily dismissed from his responsibilities so that the internal investigation, launched shortly before by the two institutions, “it can take place in complete serenity”. “This withdrawal is now final and Professor Daraï will neither resume his responsibility as head of the department nor the responsibility for teaching”, the two institutions say in a joint press release. Emile Daraï, however, continued to consult. Contacted by AFP, his lawyer was unable to react immediately.
