An endless ordeal. In Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), three people are suspected of beating up a thirty-year-old man who had been dispossessed of her apartment for more than two years.
The facts were reported by our colleagues from The Republican East. According to the victim’s story, reported by the prosecutor, since March 2020 “a group of young people have come to occupy” the victim’s apartment “to deposit drugs”. Since the summer of 2021, the victim has allegedly suffered “several acts of abuse: burns on the body with cigarettes, burns with acid and hydroalcoholic gel, punches, throwing a knife in her direction”.
His attackers also stole two cell phones, his keys and some money. The victim would also have been forced to ingest heroin, causing the intervention of the firefighters last March.
Saved by sister
The victim felt “under the influence of this group” and “in the psychological incapacity to report the facts,” the prosecution reports. Finally, she was the victim’s sister who, having discovered the situation after returning from a long stay abroad, accompanied her brother to the police station in the summer of 2022 to reveal the facts.
On Tuesday, the three main perpetrators, who were minors at the time, were arrested and placed in police custody. One of them is currently serving a prison sentence for assault with a weapon. Another is also known to the authorities for acts of violence.
The three suspects were brought before a investigating judge on Thursday, charged and placed in pre-trial detention after the opening of a judicial inquiry for “acts of torture and barbarism in meetings and administration of harmful substances”. They admitted “their regular presence in the victim’s apartment, while disputing their involvement in the commission of the facts,” the prosecution specified.
