From 31 October to 13 November, 3 cases of dengue fever were recorded, compared to 6 cases in the previous two weeks. The virus slows down, but the prefecture calls for vigilance with the onset of the southern summer, favorable for the proliferation of mosquitoes.
Press release from the Prefecture
From 31 October to 13 November, 3 cases of dengue fever were recorded, compared to 6 cases in the previous two weeks.
The virus continues to circulate on the island at a low level.
However, this situation, associated with the beginning of the austral summer and its climatic conditions more favorable to the proliferation of mosquitoes, raises fears of a resurgence of the dengue epidemic with the return of the rains.
Residents of Réunion are encouraged to eliminate standing water in their homes (cups of potted plants, gutters, etc.) to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes and protect themselves to avoid contracting dengue fever (repellents, etc.)
Situation of dengue fever as of November 24, 2022
(Data on public health France Reunion, ARS)
In the period considered, the 3 cases are distributed in the western part of the island:
San Leu
· St. Paul
Recommendations to protect yourself from mosquito bites and dengue fever
· Eliminate and empty stagnant water, which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes: cups, small containers, gutters, tyres, etc.
· Protect yourself, even in the 7 days following the onset of symptoms to protect those around you (repellent, mosquito net, etc.); and continue to protect yourself, even if you have been ill with dengue fever before
See a doctor at the first symptoms (fever, headache, muscle/joint pain, nausea, vomiting, etc.) and take the sample in the medical laboratory prescribed by your doctor to confirm the diagnosis of dengue
If you are sick with dengue fever:
– continue to protect yourself from mosquito bites to avoid transmitting the disease to those around you and monitor your health,
– consult your doctor or, in his absence, an emergency room in case of worsening of your health.
