Political figures of the island, François Vendasi died on Monday 21 November, at his home, after a long illness. He was 82 years old.
President of the Bastia Sporting Club from 1982 to 1985, head of a construction company, it was in 1994 that François Vendasi began his political career. Elected, in the same year, general councilor of the 6th canton of Bastia, in 1995 he assumed the leadership of the municipality of Furiani. Position that he maintains until 2014.
At the same time, François Vendasi stood in the 2002 legislative elections in the first constituency of Haute-Corse. Unlucky candidate in the ballot – against Emile Zuccarelli – he was finally elected to the Senate, three years later, after a partial senatorial election, organized following the resignation of Paolo Natali.
Re-elected without difficulty in 2008, he sat in the Luxembourg Palace until 2014, when he decided to retire from political life.
His funeral, indicates the death notice, will take place in the strictest secrecy, to respect his last wishes. “A guest book will be left available at the town hall of Furiani for anyone wishing to write him a message of condolence or simply pay homage to him..”
A commemoration mass will then be organized in the Sainte-Marie church.
