A legend of Czech science has died. It’s not just history buffs who are crying

The historian, museologist and numismatist Jaromír Kalus, who for many years headed the Silesian Regional Museum in Opava, has died. He was 74 years old.

“With deep regret in our hearts, we have to inform you of the sad news that on November 22, 2022, historian, museologist and longtime director of the Silesian Regional Museum Mr. PhDr. Jaromír Kalus passed away forever,” the museum announced on Facebook.

Kalus has been her boss since the early 1990s. Additionally, he has published a number of professional works, focusing on numismatics in addition to history. After the Velvet Revolution, he was a member of parliament and from 1996 to 1998 he was also head of the permanent Czech delegation to the Council of Europe.

The last farewell will take place next Monday. “We will bid farewell to the dearly departed on November 28, 2022 at 3pm in the Opava funeral home,” the survivors said.

“Employees of the Silesian Regional Museum express their sincere condolences to all survivors,” subordinates told Kalus.
