Just two days before the start of the championship in Qatar, the announcement came from Fifa: no alcoholic beer will be available for purchase at the World Cup matches. A juicy coup to say the least for the Budweiser beer purveyor.

The company pays Fifa around 75 million dollars, just over 800 million crowns, to be the official supplier of this championship. Even before the next World Cup, in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico, there is an agreement, this time for 112 million dollars, corresponding to about 1.2 billion crowns.

Now, the company will reportedly claim an approximate deduction of $47.4 million, about half a billion, for its 2026 World Cup deal with FIFA, Front Office Sports reports. This as compensation for the late announcement of the beer before the championship in Qatar.
