Oppo has officially confirmed that the Reno9 series will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, although it may be reserved for the Pro+ model. This exact pattern was discovered by the AnTuTu team, who ran benchmarks two days before the official launch.
This phone got a score of 1,094,959. It’s pretty much on par with other phones with this chip, but there’s a surprise: the unit we tested has a clockless chipset. Perhaps with power saving mode affecting tracking, perhaps Oppo has found a way to fix this.
Oppo Reno9 Pro + AnTuTu Score • A rather typical Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 score
The 8+ Gen 1 CPU runs with the main core at 3.0GHz, the medium core at 2.5GHz, and the small core at 1.8GHz. A typical example of this chip has three clusters at 3.2GHz respectively , 2.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz. Typical 8+ Gen 1 phones get about 1.1 million, like this one. We also don’t know if the GPU doesn’t track time, but the results look pretty typical for the chip.
Has Oppo found a way to overclock the chip (thereby reducing power consumption and heat) without impacting performance? If so, 8+ Gen 1 will get a second wind in the face of the imminent launch of 8 Gen 2. The official announcement is Thursday, so we’ll keep our ears peeled for those improvements.
After all, our test unit offers plenty of memory: 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This again lines up with Oppo’s teaser mentioning LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.
Oppo integrates a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
It’s a bit concerning that the operating system is listed as Android 12. Phones arriving in late 2022, especially the premium models, should come with v13 out of the box. Oppo Reno8 Pro is already running the stable ColorOS 13.
