The Saudi Arabian team, led by the Frenchman Hervé Renard, entered this World Cup with a victory against the mighty Argentina. Albiceleste wins again in the first half, but Saudi Arabia enters the second half decisively, scoring in the 48th minute and doubling the lead shortly after, a result that lasts until the end.
Saudi Arabia got their first big surprise of the 2022 World Cup today, beating Argentina, who had not lost in 36 games, 2-1, in the first round of Group C, in Lusail.
The ‘albiceleste’ formation, which tried to equal Italy’s unbeaten world record (37 games), scored first, with Lionel Messi, from a penalty, in the 10th minute, but Saleh Al Shehri, in the 48th minute, and Salem Al Dawsari, in the 53rd, sealed the turnaround.
The Asian team is, therefore, the leader of Group C, which also includes Mexico and Poland, who face off today, at 16:00 (in Lisbon), in Doha.
