– Winter always comes as a shock. And when there are some extra amounts it doesn’t help, state meteorologist Pernille Borander tells NRK.
In the last 24 hours, around 40 centimeters of snow has fallen in most places in Agder.
In Grimstad, 35 centimeters were measured.
The Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning for snow in parts of Agder, where up to 30 centimeters of snow is expected through Tuesday afternoon.
During the evening, driving conditions can also become more difficult due to the sudden changes in temperature. Precipitation is forecast for the rest of the week, but the snowline will go up.
Frontal collision
Bilredning Sør tells NRK that they have been working all night to help the cars and will have a lot to do today as well.
There are currently no major traffic problems, but several people report that things are going a little slower than normal on the roads.
But two cars collided head-on on county road 405 in Vatnestrøm.
– One person in each car, both are out. The extent of the damage is not known, police said.
In Arendal, a wheel loader got stuck while ploughing. But work is underway to get it out.
Several incidents in the last 24 hours
The last 24 hours have been characterized by a series of traffic accidents and accidents. Over 50 accidents were recorded yesterday in Vestfold and Telemark alone. Among them a fatal accident.
In Lillesand, a bus and a car collided on the slippery road. A caravan also got stuck here.
A car also ended up on its roof in Åmli in Agder after sliding on the slippery road. There have also been several road accidents in Arendal.
State meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl was out on Monday and asked people to plan on plenty of time on the roads.
– There can be a lot of pressure on the roads when there is so much snow in a short time.
Andreas Stange in Agder’s road traffic center says it can be even smoother.
– It’s winter now. It is important that people are aware of this. Who have winter tires and regulate their speed, says Larsen.
– People have to take it easy and adapt to conditions.
It can become slippery roads
Driving conditions can become difficult during the day due to sudden changes in temperature.
– Whenever there are transitions, positive or negative, there will be a period where it will be fairly regular, says state meteorologist Pernille Borander.
Tuesday will be the coldest day of the week in Southern Norway. From this afternoon the temperature will rise.
– In coastal areas, and not least the Grimstad area, which has received a lot of snow, it will be positive all afternoon, he says.
– But you won’t go far inland before it snows again tomorrow, says Borander.
– Absolutely gorgeous
The manager of the Kiwi shop on Biesletta in Grimstad got up early to shovel snow. He is happy with the snow that has arrived.
– Absolutely gorgeous. Snow is fun. Very funny. Much better than the rain. Now we’ll enjoy the snow today, she says.
– What did you think when you resisted this amount of snow?
– Oh! This is just a matter of getting started, he smiles
