Massachusetts.- One person was killed and 16 others injured on Monday after an SUV crashed into an Apple store in Massachusetts, authorities said.
Police are investigating the incident, but did not immediately say whether the crash was accidental. Hingham Police Chief David Jones said only that an investigation was underway. The driver of the van was questioned.
“This has been an inconceivable morning and people are trying to get over it and process what happened,” Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said at a news conference.
Cruz did not reveal the name of the driver, a man, or the names of the victims. He also did not say whether the driver would be charged, but added that a criminal investigation was underway.
The official added that the dark van passed through the window of the shop and hit several people.
A hole was visible in the window at the front of the shop and rescue workers were at the scene following the crash which occurred just before 11am. The shop, which is located in Derby Street shops, opened an hour before the crash.
Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said crews are assessing the building’s structural stability.
