Compared to many other continents, we in Europe are very used to powerful trucks. Not only has 500 horsepower simply become the norm here, there is also a whole bunch of European countries where no one is surprised by even more powerful 16-liter engines.
However, in such Brazil, a meeting of Scania with a V8 engine is indeed a huge rarity. Despite the fact that two-trailer combinations, which legally weigh up to 74 tons, are common on the roads, local hauliers rarely buy tractors with more than 500 horsepower. In addition, many manufacturers offer a limited range of engines, and ordering a very powerful version is not that simple, resulting in huge costs. No wonder the price of the latest acquisition from Zaqueu Transportes is now widely reported in the industry media.
This Brazilian carrier placed a special order and was the first company in the country to opt for Scania with a 770hp engine, not even mentioned on the local importer’s official website. His 770S model was configured as a 6×4 tractor, received a very lavishly equipped Highline cab, and the purchase price turned out to be 1.6 million reais. This equates to over 290,000. euro (!), which is the equivalent of two or three tractors with popular engines, both in Europe and in Brazil.
The owner himself admits that spending such an amount on a tractor was a real extravagance. The trivia doesn’t end there though, because this specially ordered vehicle won’t even make any money. After having personally completed several routes with two semi-trailers, planned out of pure curiosity, the owner of Zaqueu Transportes intends to put the 770S in the garage and keep it there as an exhibition and company mascot.
