How to raise awareness of the marine ecosystem among the young generations? On the occasion of COP27, Lumni organized a masterclass in Nausicaà for 5th and 4th graders. The goal is to better understand the ocean to better protect it.
“If the water rises, could Boulogne-sur-mer be flooded?” “How to limit ocean pollution?” “We are the only ones to blame for global warming“… Lots of questions at the Nausicaà forum for the Masterclass “Protection of the marine environment” organized by Lumni in the context of COP27.
To respond, university students could count on the presence of Noélie Pansiot, e Sarah Verdier, respectively author-director and producer of the web-series “Tout sur ta mer” published on the educational website Be happy.
Three of his episodes were also screened,“The ocean, our planet’s thermostat“,”The high seas “ et “the supershark powers, five minute entertaining and educational videos. who decipher the role of the ocean, the functioning of its ecosystems and its weaknesses.
Many specialists were mobilized to create this web series, such as Gabriel Gorsky, CNRS researcher on microalgae and plankton, who was also present in video at the Master class to answer questions from university students.
“We know more about the planet Mars than about the oceans“, confides Noëlie Pansiot, in front of amazed teenagers. The Master Class will have been an opportunity for them to learn more about the oceans but also what inhabits them. Understand, for example, that sharks are not a danger to humans, but rather the opposite. Learn that there are many sharks in the English Channel, therefore one of the most impressive: the basking shark. Finally realize that they are essential for ocean health.
The questions are numerous, but unfortunately the speakers do not have answers to everything, “cHow to prevent container ships from polluting? asks a little girl“I don’t know, it’s your turn to invent it?”, replies Noélie Pansiot.
In one afternoon, these university students were able to immerse themselves in a marine world that has not yet revealed all its mysteries, a way to sensitize future generations to the problems of our time and create, who knows, vocations.
