Ukrainians arrested for stealing over 100,000 levs show up in court with bruises and swellings – Court and Prosecutor’s Office

  • The Burgas District Court has indicted the two Ukrainians arrested for stealing BGN 100,000 in various currencies and jewelery from a property in Burgas.

    The detainees denounced the police violence, specifying that an electric shock was used against them.

    Today, the prosecutor’s office and the Burgas police held a briefing in which they announced the details of the two’s capture. A man is married and has humanitarian status, age 45. The other has been in and out of Bulgaria and is 37 years old. When searching their apartments, forensic experts found complete equipment for the thefts – 135 tools.

    “We are refugees, but it is as if we have fallen into the Gestapo,” the detainees told the judge. RD claimed that the money was personal and the gold belonged to his wife, who owns a jewelry store in Ukraine.

    The Ukrainians and their lawyer asked for the prosecutor to be barred from the case, as he failed to exercise control while gathering evidence. However, the court did not grant this request. The two Ukrainians have criminal records. They have been tried for many robberies in Ukraine. Different types of currency were also found in them.

    The legislation provides for imprisonment from 3 to 15 years for this type of crime. In the course of the investigation it will be established whether the Ukrainians committed robberies in other regions of the country.
