The former historical head of the group will take over the management again for two years.
There’s a surprising change of boss at entertainment giant Disney: longtime CEO Bob Iger is returning to the top. Disney announced Monday night that Iger had agreed to take over the helm for two years. He had been the head of Disney for 15 years. His successor, Bob Chapek, was said to have resigned.
Disney has recently continued to see strong growth in the important streaming business, but suffers from high costs. The most recent quarterly earnings fell short of stock market expectations. Chapek then announced austerity measures such as hiring freezes and job cuts.
Iger had made the Disney giant even bigger by buying, among other things, the companies behind the “Star Wars” series and “Marvel” films. Chapek, who was previously in charge of theme parks, took over in 2020 as Iger’s preferred successor. More recently, however, they were in dispute, according to media reports.
