NYPD investigates a shooting in which a man died during a drug bust last night in Upper Manhattan.
The incident occurred during an undercover operation, around 8:30 am, by local police, state police and federal agents.
Law enforcement officers were attempting to arrest two men on the first floor of a building located on Vermilyea Avenue in Washington Heights.
Police say one of the suspects started shooting at them and officers also responded by opening fire.
Task force members managed to immediately arrest one of the men, while continuing to fire on the other individual, who barricaded himself in the apartment.
Unable to contact him, they were able to see what was happening inside, and saw that the man was motionless.
Officers recovered at least two firearms at the scene.
No officers were injured.
